These stories are timeless yet so many of our students have never heard them. As pieces of Literature, they offer the fodder for exploring many facets of story telling from its history to current day application. We would relate these stories to others they may be familiar with and look for application to their own lives.
Holocaust Voices
These two podcasts would be integrated into the 8th grade unit on the Holocaust. We read Literature selections about those who experienced the horrors of WWII. Anne Frank is the persona most associated wtih the Holocaust for the students. It is great to have the opportunity to hear the voices of survivors as they share their experiences. The potential for student response in various forms to these interviews could be endless. I may even put that responsibility on the students to determine the format to demonstrate their response to what they have heard.
Common Core State Standards: National Govenors Association
Common Core State Standards is certainly a hot button in schools today. I need all the help I can get to assist in understanding the standards and their application in the classroom. Perhaps there are other teachers that may feel the same way I do and would appreciate yet another opportunity to hear the standards explained and discussed.
